In his short artistic career of 10 years, van Gogh produced 1,700 works of art. During his lifetime he sold only one painting that was purchased for $80 At the end of the 20th century one of his paintings sold for $53.9 million. His work was one of the most powerful influences on Modern Art.
Van Gogh’s paintings are known for his use of color, line and textures created with thickly applied paint. He used pure color, applied straight from the tube and was especially partial to brilliant yellows and sparkling blues. His quick brush strokes show movement and much emotion.
